INTERFAITH INITIATIVE OF SANTA BARBARA COUNTY

Mission and Vision

Our mission is to build a network of faith-based organizations to share voices and hands to solve and alleviate social problems.

Our vision is a peaceful and connected community in which community members' housing, education and health needs are met, with fair and equitable access to economic and social well-being, and no one is homeless, hungry, hated or excluded.

Our Values

Social Justice
We join together seeking a more liberating and just economic system that will promote human dignity and bring about genuine economic enpowerment, security and self-determination for every member of our community.

Teamwork
Our role as convener and catalyst requires us to build trust and establish significant working relationships with a diverse group of faith-based organizations within our County.

Action that creates solutions
We believe that faith-based community advocacy must of necessity lead to constructive, solution driven, compassionate action.

Courageous spiritual leadership
Our faith and spiritual foundation compel us to take responsibility for our communities, and commit us to lead the struggle to support families, ensure opportunity, and challenge needlessly divisive agendas.

Compassion
As Rev. Matthew Fox wrote, "Compassion is not sentiment but is making justice and doing works of mercy." This is the compassion that provides the foundation for our work of bringing faith groups together to respond to those issues of justice and mercy that need addressing in our communities.

Continually improving, learning, and growing
We are an organization dedicated to remaining relevant, learning the most effective ways to gather and motivate people, and operating in the most effective manner possible.

Inclusivity
In order to bring an end to discrimination and hatred wherever it arises in our communities, we focus on cherishing diversity and celebrating our differences. We practice respect and inclusionary consensus building to help restore tolerance and civility to the public process.

For and from the community
We engage people of faith in focusing on the needs within their communities and in participating in the creation and promotion of creative solutions.
